Fedorov A. A., Petrochenko S. V. Abstract. We present the results of the continued study on spectral bands, which appear on the surface of the parts subjected to the ultrasonic hardening processing. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and the atomic force microscopy have showed that the thickness of the oxide film formed after the ultrasonic hardening processing is enough for the spectral pattern and equal to 209 nm. A special technique was used for accurate determination of the oxide film thickness; the technique is the first pickling of the sample surface by argon ions and then measuring the height of the “step” on the atomic-force microscope. Pickling was made on the X-ray photoelectron spectrometer. For finding sharp bonders of the “step” we used pickling through the “mask”, which was a silicon plate with a thickness of 1.2 m, where a sharp cleavage was made. The step height was determined as the arithmetic average of the ten values of Rmax, taken from the corresponding Talyrond trace. It was also found that surface pickling by argon ions subjected to ultrasonic strengthening treatment is uneven. Keywords: ultrasonic treatment, control, microrelief, oxide film.
