Martyanov E.V., Arbuzov E.V., Klimova E.A., Petrenko E.O. Abstract. Scientific and technological progress makes the essential problems to improve the product quality and production efficiency. Thereby significance and importance of non-destructive testing are increasing. The problem of developing a new and modernization of existing equipment arises. The article presents the main features of the eddy current inspection (EC), remote field testing technique and magnetic flux leakage methods of electromagnetic testing. Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) tools have been major in the in-line inspection of pipelines for half a century. This method has some dis-advantages because of some pipeline types that cannot be inspected with magnetic flux leakage tools. For the past decade, Remote Field Testing (RFT) technology has been increasingly applied in the inspection of pipelines with good success. The inspection of pipelines using RFT is now well established. This technique is very interesting for steam heat exchangers nondestructive testing. RFT offers a viable alternative to traditional MFL inspection technique, with several significant advantages. This paper discusses the basic principles of RFT and the comparison for convenience and limitations of EC, RFT and MFL methods of electromagnetic nondestructive testing. Keywords: non-destructive testing, electromagnetic testing, magnetic flux leakage, remote field testing, eddy current testing.
