Rubtsov I.N. Abstract. This article is about using an absolute digital rotating magnetic encoder in the linear displacement sensor which has been worked as autonomous dendrometer. The paper provides the substantiation of choice of a sensor type, its advantages over other sensors, the process of creating the device and the results of field-testing. Through the use of digital encoder the high-frequency control of changing the diameter of tree stem has been obtained. It can help to differentiate the influence of the external factors on growth dynamics. An experimental dendrometer has been developed and a field test has been conducted. It shows the advantages of digital rotary encoders in the development of linear sensors. Keywords: absolute encoder, dendrometer, calibrating, hardware system.
