Abstract. It is proposed the investigation of the actual problem of occurrence of self-sustained oscillations in the generator sets of autonomous electric power systems. This disadvantage, which is particularly pronounced in the combined engines, makes it impossible to use the parallel operation of two or more diesel engine-generator units in the autonomous power system of the rig. The use of these aggregates is promising and popular, but difficult to implement due to the high dependence of the frequency of the current generated by such units on the load and fuel properties. The literature data is analyzed for searching the causes of such self-oscillating processes. The results of experimental studies shows that, on the on hand, self-oscillatory processes are caused by irregular fuel supply. On the other hand, they are compounded by not optimal functioning of the fuel control system of the engine whose settings are necessary to change depending on the load on the generator.
