Kozochkin M.P., Maslov A.R., Porvatov A.N. Abstract. The article deals with the information about the behavior of Diamond Like Coating (DLC) end mills when processing the aluminium alloys without using so-called “dry cutting”. Antifriction coating helps to reduce a probability of failure due to breakage of mills, but cannot completely eliminate the failure that requires to fit out the automated process equipment with diagnostic systems. It is shown that the control of signals reduces a risk of vibro-acoustic functional failure, because the phenomenon of adhesion of material particles and approximation of the situation impending breakdown of the cutters appears in the growth of the vibro-acoustic amplitude signal over a wide frequency range with a predominance of amplitude growth on tooth cutters frequency. Breakage of end milling during machining the aluminium alloys is also reliably detected through monitoring the vibro-acoustic signals which amplitude multiplies over a wide frequency range. The end mills coated with DLC differ not only in their lesser tendency to buildup of particles of aluminum alloy, but it is preferable to use machines with automatic feed control based on the active power of the electric drive of the main motion. Keywords: end mill, DLC, aluminum alloy, control, VA-signal, diagnosis, automatic regulation of feed.
