Abstract. The article deals with the structure and the model of the magnetic system MFL converter. It is given the basic principles of calculation of its characteristics with use of the finite element method on the basis of which the analysis of the influence of the electrical and geometrical parameters of the bottoms of the vertical cylindrical tank. This influence defines the metrological performance and accuracy of measurements of residual thickness by using converters implementing technology scattering flux MFL. It is formulated the main results of the calculations, which make it possible to assess the measurement error of a depth of the artificial defects by varying the magnetic permeability and roughness of the wall of the control object as well as the technological gap. It presents the proposals for metrological support of magnetic flaw with MFL-scanners to detect corrosion damage to tank bottoms.
Keywords: the MFL, the residual thickness, corrosion, oil storage tanks.
