Bazulin E. G., Tarabrin V. F. Abstract. The article deals with the possibility of detecting defects of the type 69 and 66.3 in the side of the rail foot. To improve the reliability of control, it is suggested to use a sparsed antenna array (SPAR) consisting of several piezoelectric transducers or several piezoelements in one body. To restore the image of the reflectors, we can use the correlation method. In the calculation of echo signals, the multiple reflection of the ultrasonic pulse from the rail boundaries for various elements of the SPAR is taken into account. simpler algorithm allows to restore the indications by zones when the echo goes into the specified gate. Typical acoustic schemes are defined, for each of which it is possible to obtain images of defects. Numerical and model experiments confirmed the possibility of applying the proposed algorithms for detecting defects of type 69 and 66.3 in railway rails, both in traditional technology and by obtaining its images using SPAR. Keywords: sparse antenna array (SPAR), ultrasonic monitoring of rails, SAFT.
