ROOT CAUSES DIAGNOSIS OF SGT-500 GAS TURBINE ENGINE HIGH LEVEL VIBRATIONS UNDER MEASURING DATA INCOMPLETENESS

Abstract. SGT-500 gas turbine engine (GTE) condition monitoring challenges are analyzed in the paper. The vibrations were measured under two operation modes with active power 7 MWt and 8,4 MWt that is about 50 % the power rating (100 % was unavailable due to severe vibrations) to learn the unit power consumption and rotation speed influence on its vibration spectral components and thus to get some useful diagnostic information. Frequency analysis of bearing support vibrations picked up by the regular monitoring system as well as analysis of additionally measured case vibrations have discovered significant developments of nonlinear features of the GTE as an oscillatory system. There is shown since HPC (high pressure compressor) rotation frequencies dominate in vibration spectra, specific modulation effects and self-excited vibration with subsynchronous frequencies show its worth, so the most probable diagnosis is severe HPC blades and vanes damages.
