Rykov A. N., Artemyev B. V. Abstract. Improving of the product quality without corresponding development of methods and means of nondestructive testing and diagnostics under modern conditions is not practically possible. It is especially topical for polymer composite products having a number of advantages over traditional materials such as metals, particularly, in aerospace brunches of engineering. From the point of view of increasing the validity of results of product nondestructive testing and the rate of its performance, the automatic nondestructive testing systems are the most prospective. When performing the automatic testing, the matter of an accuracy of determining areas of defects to be detected is one of the most topical. The paper considers matters of the accuracy of determining the defect areas during contactless ultrasonic automatic nondestructive testing of cylindrical polymer composite products that was conducted in accordance with the type procedure at CRISM JSC. The theoretical calculation of the dependence of relative error of determining areas of defects on their area for different values of scanning parameters has been performed. There are presented results of experimental studies that qualitatively confirm theoretical propositions. The quantitative estimation of the total defect area error showed that the resulting value is within the limits of 20 % and depends on dimensions of defects detected during testing. Keywords: contactless ultrasonic inspection, scanning error, defect area.
