The article gives a brief overview of the possibilities of non-destructive testing for the analysis, identification and restoration of works of art and other monuments of cultural heritage. It is shown that new capabilities of NDT methods using electromagnetic radiation of different wavelengths and improvement of radiation generation technologies: increasing the stability of sources, the possibility of fine adjustment of anode voltage in X-ray devices or the polarization vector for other sources of electromagnetic radiation, high sensitivity and stability of detectors allow using equipment Nondestructive testing not only for the detection of heterogeneities and geometric structure is studied but also for the detection of illegal investments and hidden images, suppression of attempts to create duplicates issued for copyright works. At the end of the article, the problem of illegal circulation of works of art is touched upon, which is acute in Russia and some other countries with a rich history. It is shown that in addition to a large number of other tasks, X-ray equipment can also be effectively used to prevent illicit trafficking in art objects Keywords: X-ray inspection, thermal imaging, radiometry, microscopy, cultural heritage.
