Galkin D. I. Abstract. The article deals with the issues of preservation of the image obtained by X-ray inspection (RС) when changing the geometric factors of exposure and the type of the detecting system. It is shown that the resolving power of the image is determined by the aggregate frequency-contrast characteristic, taking into account the influence of geometric factors and the type of detection system. To demonstrate the effect of sharpness (contrast) of the image on its information content, an experiment was carried out, which consists in exposing a defective welded joint with a consecutive decrease in the focal length. According to the results of the experiment, it is concluded that the basic spatial resolution is sensitive to changes in the information content of the image. This fact makes it possible to use a duplex wire image quality identificator to evaluate the possibility of replacing the film technology of the RC with a digital or сomputed one. Keywords: digital radiography, сomputed radiography, basic spatial resolution, duplex wire image quality identificator, usharpness, contrast ratio.
