PROBLEM STATEMENT FOR DETECTION AND IDENTIFICATION OF COMBINED DEFECTS DURING THE INLINE INSPECTION OF OIL-PIPELINES BY HIGH-RESOLUTION ACOUSTIC INLINE INSPECTION TOOLS
(pp. 30-35)

Abstract. An observation and problem statement for a detection and an identification of combined defects by ultrasonic inline-inspection tools (ILI-tools) according to the regulations for the purpose of an oil pipeline technical condition assessment is considered. For utilizing regulated reference notch reflectors (right-angled) at the calibration blocks it is necessary to provide an additional study to specify a process of the echopulse generation for the detection and identification of considered combined defects. The model of the notch – like reflector has been presented for a scattering imitation of an elastic wave which were reflected by a surface of the combined defects. This model is a notch – like corner reflector with components as a flat and curved convex planes. Singularity of an echo signal generation has been assessed for the proposed corner reflector next to the regulated by codes reflector. Sufficient difference of echo-signal from standardized notch – reflector and proposed model for imitation of combined defects has been confirmed experimentally.
