COMPREHENSIVE METHOD FOR MONITORING PCB CORROSION PROCESS
(pp. 50-57)

Abstract. Experimental studies of corrosion penetration into printed circuit boards of laboratory samples are presented. Conditions similar to those ignited in contact with sea water were recreated and a series of experiments were carried out with each printed circuit board of the device. The results of laboratory studies of the relationship between corrosion of conductive tracks and their resistance according to the ratio of color components in a digital image of the corroded surface of a printed circuit board track are presented. The histogram of the distribution of pixels by color for photographs clearly shows that green will usually always predominate, since it is the main color of the PCB mask, but the corrosion itself is characterized by red. Measuring the resistance of the tracks during the experiment allows us to determine the effectiveness of protecting the mask on the printed circuit board from corrosion and assess the quality of the metallization process and application of the mask. In this case, we can say that there is a linear relationship between the variables, which corresponds to experimental data. A theoretical analysis of the factors influencing the change in the brightness of RGB components in the image of a corroded surface and the resistance of the conductive path has been carried out..

Keywords: PCB corrosion, corroded surface, image, histogram, contrast, corrosion depth, salt water.
