Based on the study of the structure, phase composition and mechanical properties of the bimetal SA387GR11CL2+SA240TP321 (domestic analogue 12ХМ+08Х18Н10Т) and welded joints, a comprehensive method for assessing the thermal impact on various zones of oil refining industry apparatuses in determining the causes of damage and monitoring the current state is proposed. It is shown that it is advisable to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the metal not only on cuttings from the apparatus, but also on reference samples during comparison. To assess the thermal effect, it is proposed to use energy-dispersive analysis of metal in various zones, which makes it possible to conduct studies on small samples while reducing the labor intensity of work compared to classical carbide analysis. Simulation of overheating in laboratory conditions provides additional information about the thermal effects that could cause damage to the equipment. Keywords: oil refining, bimetal, microstructure, phase composition, heat treatment.
