Abstract. This paper is aimed at approbation of the method of predicting the rate of corrosion in steamwater and strength of oxide films of heating surfaces in studies conducted by the expert of company “Promtec”. It is offered for the study of corrosion products to use cathodic pulse chronopotentiometry in the version of the local electrochemical analysis (LEA) voltammetry and the results of impedance measurements. Application of electrochemical methods allows to identify a phase of oxide films, its continuity and electrical conductivity. It is shown that the increase of corrosion rate is connected with the formation of iron oxide (III), the absence of the composition of the film inner layer, the high porosity of the film and its high ionic conductivity. Proposed method allows to estimate a range of values of corrosion rate, which coincides with the results of ultrasonic testing. LEA, in addition to the results of ultrasonic testing, allows the assumption about the reasons of changes of film protective properties.
