The results of the pilot operation developed in CJSC NPC “Molniya”, Moscow, with the participation of Ltd STC “Spectrum”, Ufa, scanner-flaw ASD “Vikhr”, designed for automated eddy current testing of 100 % of the main and technological pipelines in diameter from 720 to 1420 mm at their scheduled diagnosis during maintenance work as part of construction and installation of columns and at industrial sites repair bases. The high level of intellectualization management processes of scanning, collecting and processing information about the detected defects, evaluating their nature and automatic recognition. It is shown that the scanner flaw ASD “Vikhr” provides a route conditions control the whole body except the tubes of circular welded joints with a linear speed of 2.5 m/min and uniquely identifies defects such as stress corrosion cracking and corrosion damage. All identified defects were confirmed by redundant testing methods with the use of hand-held eddy current flaw detector VD-70 and magnetic particle inspection. Skip of the defects in the pipe body and weld zones of longitudinal welded joints have not been recorded. Pictures of surface defects and the corresponding defectogram are provided. According to the results of trial operation we have concluded that the scanner flaw ASD “Vikhr” is operational during overhaul of main gas pipelines and meets the requirements of Gazprom R 2-2.3-596-2011document. Keywords: gas pipeline, the stress corrosion, crack, eddy current testing, automated complex scanner flaw, repair, re-insulation.
