EDDY-CURRENT METAL DETECTOR EXCITATION PULSE FORM OPTIMIZATION
(pp. 21-26)

Abstract. One of the principal specifications of eddy-current metal finders is the ability not only to detect electro conductive objects, but evaluate as more its characteristics as possible. Object of the research is optimal design of current coil excitation field function, which make possible to enhance transceiver efficiency and ensure more exact object discrimination. Disadvantages of present excitation impulse forms during the research were analyzed. And trapezoid excitation field on basis of the finding was suggested. Benefits of such field form are separation of the excitation process and desired signal analysis and effective excitation impulse power transfer to electro conductive object at the cost of eddy currents in the detected object reaching steady level over compliant time intervals.

Keywords: electroconductive object, eddy-current metal detector, periodic trapezoid impulse, harmonic components, object discrimination.
