It gives the examples of typical defects of structural elements of gas heaters. It is dealt with the main types of non-destructive testing of elements of gas heaters, exposed to high temperatures, peculiarities of the application of these methods during the repair and overhaul of gas fired heaters. It is considered the non-destructive testing in the current repairs. It is marked the features of the equipments for visual and measuring control such as thermal imagers and endoscopes, the features of the thermal imager control in all weather conditions. Non-destructive testing during an overhaul includes the use of complex techniques and equipment’s, the main types of testing are visual and measurement, ultrasonic, magnetic or penetrant. Also the thickness and hardness of the metal pipes of gas heater are being measured. If the values of hardness are far from normative, chemical analysis of elements of a heater may be carried out. It is considered a variant of examination of gas heaters using acoustic emission method, in case if it is impossible to disassembly com-plete the thermal insulation. Keywords: gas heater, furnace radiation-convection type, lining, thermal imaging inspection, non-destructive testing.
