Ushakov V.M., Davydov D.M., Mikhalev V.V. Abstract. The article provides analysis the state of the nondestructive testing of fasteners power equipment in the manufacture and operation in extreme environments of nuclear, thermal and hydroelectric power plants. It is briefly described the methods of nondestructive testing used in the manufacture and operation of fastening elements. The possibility of a practical implementation of the detection of cracks under the threaded studs by ultrasonic testing with the end surface (including the presence of a polyhedron) is experimentally proved. The justification is given on operating cracks under the thread detected during ultrasonic inspection from the end of the stud without twisting it from slot. Discovered cracks had been confirmed by ultrasonic testing of a smooth cylindrical surface of the studs, as well as metallographic analysis plots of studs with invalid discontinuities (cracks). Moreover, there had been presented examples of operational defects found during visual, liquid penetrant and ultrasonic testing. The prospects of the development of testing are also shown. Keywords: ultrasonic testing, fasteners, ultrasonic flaw detector, fatigue cracks, screw area.
