The research shows that an increase in the rigidity parameter of the shaft cross-section on the second portion results in greater frequencies of the shaft natural vibrations, whereas an increase in the polar moment of inertia on the second shaft portion results in lesser frequencies of the shaft natural vibrations. The depend-encies of circular frequencies of the shaft torsional vibrations on the initial coordinate position and length of the second portion have a periodic pattern. Using four frequencies of independent torsional vibrations, we can determine the rigidity parameter, the polar moment of inertia on the second shaft portion as well as the initial coordinate position and length of this portion. Keywords: three-element shaft, natural frequencies, torsional vibrations, primal and inverse problem.
