OPTIMIZATION OF ULTRASONIC DEVICE PARAMETERS FOR MEASUREMENTS OF LUBRICANTS VISCOSITY FOR IN-LINE CONDITION DIAGNOSTICS OF MACHINE EQUIPMENT. Part 2
(pp. 9-14)

Abstract. It is noted that application of normal waves for measurement of viscosity and density of liquid imposes restrictions on waveguide length: the restriction from below is a minimal length, in order to form a normal wave, the restriction from above is caused by losses owing to field effects and absorption in a material. Influence of length of a waveguide on the propagation of zero modes of normal waves is experimentally investigated. It is established that there are two regions of dependences of echo-signal amplitudes on waveguide length. In the first region wave amplitude decreases. In the second region wave amplitude doesn't practically depend on distance. The physical reasons causing these dependences are considered. In order to reduce a waveguide extension, dependences of normal wave amplitudes on a waveguide curvature radius are investigated when the waveguide is in the air or immersed in a liquid. It is shown that, if curvatures have radiuses from to 5…10 mm, then normal wave amplitude changes of the horizontally polarized wave (frequency 1,7 MHz) and symmetrical Lamb's waves (frequency 2,5 MHz) that passed through a curved place doesn't exceed 3 %. It is noted that density and viscosity measurement errors can be reduced by means of calibration.

Keywords: diagnostics, waveguide, ultrasonic measurement, horizontal-polarized normal plate wave, Lamb waves, wave attenuation and propagation velocity, waveguide length, shear viscosity, water-glycerol solution, waveguide curvature.
