TECHNOLOGICAL FEATURES OF THE PROJECT STATE STANDARDS «NDT. MAGNETIC PARTICLE EXAMINATION METHOD. TYPICAL PROCESS»
(pp. 24-32)

Abstract. The features of the National Standard for “Nondestructive testing. Method of magnetic particle testing. Typical technological processes” are considered. The project of the new Standard is based on the previous national standard GOST 21105–87, taking into consideration the latest scientific and technological achievements in magnetic particle testing. The content of the Standard is described as well as its general characteristic. The technical possibilities of magnetic particle testing method are outlined. The differences between the new Standard and the previous one are shown, as well as the differences between the new Standard and the foreign ones. The main purpose of the new Standard is to establish the general adjusted technological and methodological requirements to the testing method, technology and testing equipment. The tasks, which should be solved during the development of the Standard, are described. The Standard gives the recommendations how to choose the testing equipment and to carry out the technological testing operations. This Standard is applied for testing the items made of soft magnetic steel as well as of hard magnetic steel. The magnetic particle testing is considered using the applied magnetic field methods and the residual magnetization. It is proved that it is necessary to take into account the magnetic background of the testing items, so to say one should know the nature of the previous magnetic field impacts on the testing items. The illus-trations show the changes of magnetic field intensity of the magnetized parts after multiple magnetization. Different magnetization techniques are considered. The recommendations on the choice of magnetization modes are given, taking into consideration the angle between the magnetic field and the plane of possible defects. The peculiarities of magnetic indicator application for the testing items are outlined. It is recommended to use the air suspension of fine magnetic particles as an indicator in order to arrange highly sensitive magnetic particle testing and to find the defects under the thick layer of protective coating. The peculiarities of item inspection are described for detecting the defect indicator patterns. The lighting requirements for testing items are clarified. There are recommendations how to distinguish the true defects and false ones, how to register the testing results, how to demagnetize the items and to fulfill the final operations. The detailed safety instructions are given to carry out magnetic particle testing, accounting for the Russian regulatory documentation.
