ABILITY OF CABLE INSULATION DEFECT DETECTION IN HIGH VOLTAGE TESTING
(pp. 69-73)

Abstract. In this article the method of cable insulation in-process control in compliance with Federal standard 2990–78 “Cables, wires and cords. Methods of voltage testing” and Federal standard23286–78 “Cables, wires and cords. Standards of insulation thickness, shells and voltage testing”is described. The parameters influencing the breakdown voltage during the cable in-process electrospark control is considered. The breakdown voltage dependencies on a frequency and application time of testing voltage are presented. Current Russian and foreign documentations, regulating the electrospark control, is considered. The comparison table of the testing voltage of these standards is made. The effect oftesting voltage parameters on ability to control the through defect across cable insulation is analysedconsidering the different cable locationrelative to the control electrodes.

Keywords: insulation of cable products, test voltage, defects.
