ULTRASONIC TESTING PROJECTS PROPELLER SHAFTS 301 AND 302 WITH LINING

Abstract. The paper considers the possibility of using the ultrasonic method to control the degradation processes in the metal propeller shafts under the lining. The investigation of the actual product shows the possibility of using the ultrasonic inspection of propeller shafts with lining for determining the physico-mechanical and technological properties of the shaft specifications. Repeatedly reflected probe beam and two types of waves: longitudinal and shear waves are used in the work for this task. The longitudinal waves are introduced at right angles to the end face of the shaft. The shear waves are introduced to the surface of the shaft generator is not busy facings at the appropriate angle. The wave nature of the design of the shaft allows to reuse the reflected beam and record the echo on the basis of the necessary sounding. A control scheme is chosen according to the constructive embodiment coverings, their size, shaft material, access to the working area of the shaft. The standard enterprise is manufactured to carry out the most important in terms of the reliability of the control procedures: the setting the sweep duration and the sensitivity of ultrasonic inspection. Company uses a defective shaft containing no cracks in the controlled area and having respective dimensions as a blank for the manufacture of the standard sample. The proposed method of ultrasonic inspection of the propeller shafts with facing can be put into practice now, because it is possible to get the resulting values of sensitivity and sweep implemented on a standard inspection. The results are used during the repair of dock ship of the passenger vessels 301 and 302. It allows to improve the reliability of the control shaft line and significantly reduce the cost of the overhaul.
