THE THICKNESS MEASUREMENT OF THE PRODUCTS OF COMPLEX SHAPES AND WITH RESTRICTED ACCESS
(pp. 47-50)

Abstract. The article presents information on the problem of measuring with high precision the thickness of the products having a complicated configuration and large surface roughness in hard to reach areas with a greater radius curvature surface. The problem is solved by using the developed focusing damped immersion transducer with a focal spot diameter of about 0,5 mm by emitting the pulse frequency of 18 MHz. The thickness measurement of the test object by the transducer is conducted with the immersion method using a local immersion bath profiled under hard-to-reach location on the test object. The efficiency of the transducer with a local immersion bath was tested on samples with a thickness of 0,5 to 4,0 mm, pre-measured and certified in the prescribed manner. The Ultrasonic defectoscope USD-50 of domestic production with “thickness gauge” function was used for these purposes. It is visible the resolution of the transducer at the presented A-scan that allows to measure the thickness of 0,5 to 4,0 mm with a high accuracy.

Keywords: thickness control, ultrasonic testing, ultrasonic thickness measurement, focusing immersion transducer.
