AUTOMATED ULTRASOUND DIAGNOSTIC WITH HIGH RESOLUTION AND THE NEW INFORMATION CRITERIA FOR ASSESSING THE QUALITY OF WELDED JOINTS
(pp. 34-040)

Abstract. The article deals with the possibility of transition from the old criteria for assessing the quality of welded joints, such as the equivalent size, the number of point defects, etc. to the new information criteria of defects according to the results of modern types of automated ultrasound testing. Three-dimensional visualization of areas of control obtained with the use of modern methods of coherent image restoration gives new information parameters. Such parameters may be the overall size of defects, the inner surface of the seam profile, as well as visual, close to the optical, image defect obtained with use of many testing schemes by digital technology of focus of antenna arrays. The examples of existing techniques with the dimensional criteria for the new standards of quality assessment are given.

Keywords: automated ultrasonic testing, restore image, visualization, defect, digital focus, phased arrays, quality assessment standards.
