THERMAL CONTROL MULTILAYER STRUCTURES OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS OF AIRCRAFTS
(pp. 42-47)

Abstract. Multilayer structures have a high stiffness with low weight. The rigidity of the structures can be preserved only under condition of preservation of their integrity. There are different methods and means of nondestructive testing to identify the emerging defects. Increased use of the composite materials leads to the development of new technologies for their control. The preferable method of control to detect defects in multilayer structures is the heat control method. The article presents a study on the application of the method of thermal control of composite multilayer structures to enhance control efficiency. Theoretical studies of possibility of detecting defects were carried out on the basis of the analysis of the temperature fields with use of a mathematical model of thermal control. The values of the varied factors, which provide the best detection of defects, were found out. The results of theoretical research and conducted experimental research demonstrate the capabilities to identify defects by thermal method. For example, the specific design is determined with heating time period and control for the best detection of defects. The results of experimental studies form the basis for a technique to identify the defective areas in aircraft fairings. Submitted settings of  thermal imager allow to eliminate further processing of thermal images on a computer. Thermal control of the fairing of the aircraft allows to increase the efficiency and reliability of its control.

Keywords: multilayer element, composite structure, thermal control, temperature contrast, detection of delaminations filler.
