THE TYPES OF THE ACOUSTIC EMISSION SOURCES IN THE COMPOSITE MATERIALS
(pp. 14-20)

Abstract. The Fiber Reinforced Polymeric Composite material (FRPC) is considered in the article as non-uniform material with the complexity structure representing a multiple set of the cells connected among themselves. It results in a big variety of defects and mechanisms of fracture of the FRPC structural elements. Each act of fracture is connected by the radiation of impulses of the acoustic emission (AE) which parameters display parameters of fracture of separate cells. The complexity of structure causes complexity of impulses forms of AE. Process of fracture represents consecutive fracture of cells one after another. At the same time, there is a fracture of cells in different parts of object. The multiple fracture of parts of object leading eventually to the general fracture of all object turns out. The models of an elementary and single impulse of AE are described. The  functions of AE sources and the general estimates of influence of a form and a size of an element of fracture on a form of impulses of AE are given. It is shown that the source of AE possesses the difficult directional pattern, at the same time both longitudinal, and shear waves are radiated.

Keywords: acoustic emission, composites, defects, sources AE.
