MAGNETOELASTIC ELECTROMAGNETIC ACOUSTIC TRANSFORMATION. PART 1
(pp. 22-32)

Abstract. The magnetoelastic medium is under the influence of both high frequency and strong polarization fields in EMAT. These fields can be applied in different directions to each other. The magnetic susceptibility of a ferromagnetic in these directions becomes different in magnitude /magnetic anisotropy/. Since this macroscopic characteristic determines the distribution of the high-frequency field and magnetoelastic forces in the conducting medium, its magnitude can affect the efficiency of the EMAT. This paper deals with the classical situation when the fields are mutually parallel or perpendicular. On the basis of the known model applicable to the processes of rotation of the vectors of spontaneous magnetization, a number of the observed regularities under mutually perpendicular fields have been explained. The analytical calculation has shown that the susceptibility in the region of the rotation processes in the parallel field should be smaller than that in the perpendicular field. A technique has been suggested and experimental measurements of the alternating field, which passed through the ferromagnetic plate, have been carried out. They confirmed the calculated results of susceptibilities in different directions of the in the plane of the plate (tangential components of transmitted field). It has been concluded that the normal projection of the field does not provide any independent information on susceptibility as it is formed due to the total field of the emitter in the metal.

Keywords: EMA transformation, mutually perpendicular and parallel magnetic fields, magnetic susceptibility.
