ANALYSIS OF THE DISTORTION OF THE SIGNAL FORM FOR LOCATION MONITORING OF ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION LINES
(pp. 44-49)

Abstract. The article analyzes the waveform of signals in pulse reflectometers. The main source of distortion of rectangular pulses is the dependence of the phase coefficients and the attenuation of the line on the frequency. The dependence of the shape of the reflected signal on the error in determining the fault location of the line is investigated. From the analysis of the results of calculations of the errors in the phase coefficients and damping, it follows that the error values depend on the frequency of the harmonic signal. Since in the OTDRs rectangular pulses representing the sum of the harmonic components are used as signal, it is obvious that when the pulse passes through the line, the waveform will be distorted. The instability of the shape of the reflected signal, which enters the comparator, is the source of the error Δτ. A dependence has been derived that makes it possible to choose the frequency range for the analytical determination of the shape of the reflected signal. With an increase in the duty cycle, the amplitudes in the low-frequency part of the spectrum decrease. The measurement range is determined by the value of the signal period, but to increase the accuracy of the measurement, it is necessary to reduce the pulse width, and increase the pulse duty ratio accordingly. The results of the study make it possible to choose the design parameters of the device reasonably.
