HE ULTRASONIC CONTROL OF METAL THROUGH THE CLADDING FUSED LAYER WITH USE OF THE ANGLE BEAM PROBE OF LONGITUDINAL WAVES
(pp. 4-19)

Abstract. At experimental researches of the ultrasonic control of metal through the cladding fused layer on a sample by angle beam probes of longitudinal waves it is established, that dependence of a signal registered from a side drilled hole on a corner of a direction on a reflector has only one maximum, as against described before the phenomenon at similar researches with use of angle beam probe of shear waves. Experimental results were confirmed with theoretical modelling of directivity characteristics at radiation of longitudinal waves in the basic metal through an elastic layer of variable thickness in view of its anisotropic properties in approximation transversal-isotropic (TI) model.Calculations of amplitude echo signal from a reflector such as a side drilled hole of longitudinal waves at radiation and reception through the TI-layer of constant thickness have shown, that with increase of parameter of anisotropy of a layer features – displacement of a maximum of a signal in a direction of increase of distance up to a reflector, and also some increase of value of a maximum are observed. Presence of the first feature is caused by increase of phase speed quasilongitudinal wave in a layer with growth of anisotropy, and the second – with change of coefficient of double transformation at passage of a longitudinal wave from a prism of the angle beam probe in a layer and back.

Keywords: angle beam probe, longitudinal wave, quasilongitudinal wave, angle of probe, cladding fused layer, basic metal, side drilled hole, transversal-isotropic layer, corner of an inclination of a surface, ultrasonic testing, directivity characteristic.
