NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING OF LARGE DIAMETER MULTISTRAND STAY CABLES
(pp. 20-27)

Abstract. The article is devoted to non-destructive testing of large diameter multistrand stay cables. Structure of multistrand stay cables used in modern cable-stayed bridges and other objects is considered in this article. Potential defects are considered and the importance of stay cables testing is proven. Because of huge mass and very strong magnetic strength application of traditional MRT instruments is practically impossible. The proposed method is based on eddy currents, appropriate device was developed. The results of it test both in laboratory conditions and during inspection of two different bridges are given.

Keywords: nondestructive testing, eddy current testing, multistrand stay cables, parallel strand system.
