AUTOMATED X-RAY INSPECTION OF COMPLEX SHAPED PRODUCTS MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS
(pp. 52-58)

Abstract. In the tasks of improving product quality, non-destructive testing methods based on various physical principles of interaction of physical fields with the controlled material come out in the first place, while one of the most popular is the X-ray method of non-destructive testing. To solve the problems of automating the X-ray inspection process and increasing the reliability of defect detection, a special method was developed based on comparing the results of layered spatial inspection of a real product with a reference one, and appropriate software and hardware, which include the main three stages: scanning and registering the X-ray image of the reference product (without defects) in all possible and necessary projections; scanning and recording of an X-ray image of a real product in projections identical to the reference product; comparison of X-ray images in identical projections using a special algorithm and detection and identification of defects. Taking into account this method, appropriate software and hardware tools have been developed, including a 5-coordinate automated scanning device and special software. Experimental studies and the results of industrial operation have clearly shown that the developed automated control system and information processing algorithm provide the necessary reliability of identification of internal defects located in arbitrary planes of the product.

Keywords: non-destructive testing, automation, X-ray non-destructive testing, defect identification, a product of complex design.
