AN ATTACHED MAGNETIC DEVICE BASED ON PERMANENT MAGNETS FOR MAGNETIZING PRODUCTS IN MAGNETIC PARTICLE TESTING
(pp. 23-27)

Abstract. Magnetizing devices based on permanent magnets should be used for magnetic particle testing in flammable, explosive and hard-to-reach places, as well as in field conditions. This paper proposes an original attached magnetic device (AMD) enabling one to perform longitudinal (polar) magnetization of products. The value of the magnetizing field in the test zone is controlled by the variation of the distance between the electromagnet poles and the rotation of energy-intensive permanent magnets made of highly coercive high-energy rare-earth materials. The attached magnetic device has been used to detect discontinuities in welded joints of pipelines and high-pressure vessels at thermal power stations in Bulgaria.

Keywords: attached magnetizing device, yoke, highly coercive permanent magnets, magnetic flux, magnetic induction, ferrules, defect.
