RECOGNITION OF TRUE AND FALSE DEFECTS USING CAPILLARY TESTING
(pp. 15-22)

Abstract. The detecting drawings of defects during sorting, received using capillary testing, in some cases can be classified into roundish (non-linear) and extended (linear, long), and tested items can be rejected depending on the quantity and size of the detecting drawings. More detailed analysis of detecting drawings is not provided. As a rule, when there is a possibility of appearance of false defects, this approach leads to unreasonable rejection of many items, if the reasons of the detecting drawings appearance are not defined. This classification of detecting drawings is incomplete and short. It is not provided by the legal state standards on capillary testing. This classification is made with in-fringement of the logical rule of proportional division of concepts. Many types of detecting drawings of defects are missing in this classification. The detecting drawings are heteromorphous, they have various forms, and in many cases they are multidimensional. There are examples of the defects, when their detecting drawings can’t be classified as “roundish / extended”. So the application of such classification is not sensible. At all the enterprises, involved in production or repairing of technical products, it is known exactly, what kind of defects can appear on the testing items. The technological instructions on capillary testing should contain the detailed description of the features of specific real defects, which are typical for the particular industry or for service conditions instead of giving the recommendations on detection of “roundish” or “extended” defects. The controllers should know the types of the defects which should be detected. The preliminary focus of the specialist on the search of defined type of detecting drawings is very important to prevent perception errors and to provide high labor productivity. The controllers should be able to distinguish the detecting drawings of true and false defects, using the wide range of features and characteristics. The basic and most substantial additional features of detecting drawings of defects are considered. The characteristics of drawing analysis and recognition methods of true and false defects are described.
