EXPERIENCE OF APPLICATION OF ACOUSTIC EMISSION METHOD FOR INSPECTING REACTOR FOR HYDROTREATMENT OF DIESEL FUEL
(pp. 9-17)

Abstract. Application of the acoustic emission monitoring technique as an independent tool for assessing the technical condition of the object under control is discussed on the example of practical inspection of the diesel fuel reactor. It is given the comparison of the results of acoustic emission monitoring and the results of evaluation of the stress-strain state of the reactor having a crack in the sleeve fitting. It is shown that the medium leak through a crack in a sleeve reveals itself as acoustic emission of approximately constant amplitude level with duration increasing with testing pressure. Guidelines are provided for detection of leaks through the crack to a critical value by the acoustic emission signals. It is shown that the lack of quantitative criteria for identification of the leak does not allow to use acoustic emission technique as a standalone method without extra verification by additional independent methods of nondestructive testing.

Keywords: acoustic emission, nondestructive testing, diagnosis, crack, leak-before-break.
