PORE MORPHOLOGY INFLUENCE AT POROSITY ULTRASONIC TESTING OF CFRP BY PULSE-ECHO METHOD
(pp. 22-29)

Abstract. Calculation of porosity value in FRP parts and structures without their destruction is very important and topical problem. Porosity is very dangerous production discontinuity. Contents of porosity in material of FRP structures in the amount of 0 to 4 % can cause a significant decrease of strength properties. Specialists of FSUE “VIAM” work for that problem not the first year and worked out a number of techniques of porosity value calculation by ultrasonic nondestructive testing method (NDT). The results of CFRP specimens researching are given by authors in that paper. The fact that pore morphology and it volume distribution is one of the main factors which influence at an accuracy of porosity value calculation by ultrasonic method NDT are also shown.

Keywords: carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), porosity, nondestructive testing, ultrasonic, pulse-echo method.
