INSTALLATION FOR CATALYTIC ACTIVITY RESEARCH OF POWDER PHOTOCATALYSTS
(pp. 58-62)

Abstract. To study the activity of powder catalysts in the photo-decomposition reactions of organic pollutants in aqueous solutions, an automated installation has been developed, which combines photo-reaction and measurement cells. The installation provides the ability to irradiate the test solution simultaneously with the visible-ultraviolet light of the optical spectrum or the light of one of these ranges. Methylene blue dye was used as a model pollutant. The dye decomposition rate was determined by measurement of the optical density of the aqueous solution and the calibration concentration dependence. The measuring unit consists of a semiconductor laser with  = 650 nm, a photoresistor and a signal processing system. To maintain fine powders in the upper irradiated layer, a magnetic stirrer is used, and to maintain coarse particles, a piston – oscillating mechanism is used. The results at the application of the developed installation to study the properties of strontium bismuth as promising photocatalyst, the absorption region of which lies in the visible part of the spectrum, are presented.

Keywords: measuring installation, photocatalysis, photocatalysts, photometry, kinetics, conversion degree.
