NONDESTRUCTIVE ULTRASONIC TESTING OF POROSITY IN ALUMINUM COATINGS USING A LASER OPTOACOUSTIC METHOD
pp. (49-55)

Abstract. A method of nondestructive ultrasonic testing of the volumetric porosity of coatings obtained by arc surfacing of an aluminum alloy onto a steel substrate has been proposed. The method utilizes the laser thermo-optical excitation of probe ultrasonic pulses and the measurement of the spectral power of pulses scattered by pores in a coating, and makes it possible to perform testing with one-sided access to the flat surface of a coating.

Keywords: surfaced coatings, porosity, laser optoacoustic effect, scattering of ultra-sonic waves.
