MUTUAL COMPATIBILITY OF ACOUSTIC EMISSION SYSTEMS, SENSORS AND PREAMPLIFIERS
(pp. 12-26)

Abstract. As a rule, an acoustic emission system, when delivered to the customer, consists of compatible and consistent components: sensors, preamplifiers, ADC units, processors, and software. During system operation, some components may be replaced. The article presents some not always obvious results of such substitutions. As a result of the work carried out, the possibility of operation of various AE systems, sensors and preamps was confirmed, the necessary software settings of AE systems for successful adaptation of non-standard peripherals were determined, the possibilities and limitations of using third-party sensors and preamps both from the noise level and from recording the maximum amplitude. The information provided can be useful both to specialists performing AE testing and to manufacturers of AE equipment.

Keywords: acoustic emission testing, acoustic emission sensor, preamplifier, gain, ADC, intrinsic noise level, dynamic range.
