Abstract. Studies were carried out to compare the magnetic properties of flaw detection suspensions’ magnetic particles, produced by different manufacturers. The different detectability of defects noted during the use of suspensions is confirmed by the different values of the magnetic properties of suspension particles established in the work. Data on the effect of the volume fraction of magnetically active suspension particles on the magnetic susceptibility of the corresponding powder samples were obtained experimentally. The use of these data in terms (using the original approach) for the values of the magnetic susceptibility of individual particles showed that these values differ markedly from each other, thereby confirming the need to obtain such information for particles of a particular suspension of magnetic particle flaw detection. Experimental tests have shown that suspensions with higher values of particle’ magnetic susceptibility have higher sensitivity, which makes it possible to detect defects with a greater depth and smaller opening width.
Keywords: magnetic particle flaw detection, magnetic properties of suspensions’ particles, pondermotive magnetometer, depleted powder sample.
