TESTING DEFECT OF MULTILAYER DIELECTRIC AND MAGNETODIELECTRIC COATINGS BY THE METHOD SURFACE ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES
(pp. 68-76)

Abstract. Existing radio wave flaw detection methods for multilayer dielectric and magnetodielectric coatings have a low detection rate for extended defects (coating delamination from the metal substrate and interlayer delamination) and do not provide a quantitative interpretation of inspection results (assessment of the absolute magnitude of delaminations and interlayer delaminations). This article presents the results of a study on the detection and assessment of extended defects (delamination from the metal substrate and interlayer delamination) in multilayer dielectric coatings on a metal substrate by the method surface electromagnetic waves. In the proposed method, the defect parameters of multilayer coatings are estimated by minimizing a quadratic functional constructed as the residual between the experimental and calculated theoretical values of the surface electromagnetic wave field attenuation coefficients on a discrete frequency grid. Full-scale experiments on a measuring complex implementing the method showed that the method of surface electromagnetic waves provides estimates of the geometric parameters (heights) of defects in multilayer dielectric coatings in a frequency band with an error of no more than 6…10 %.

Keywords: multilayer dielectric coating, surface electromagnetic wave, delamination, interlayer delaminations, electrophysical and geometric parameters, field attenuation coef-ficient, reconstruction.
